Reggae Music:
Jamaica is the birthplace of reggae music, and it has a vibrant music scene deeply rooted in the island’s culture. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rhythm and soul of reggae at live music venues, dance halls, and annual music festivals like Reggae Sumfest.
For us, music wasn’t just something we experienced at a concert or special event, it was woven into every part of our trip. Each evening at our resort, local bands and performers filled the air with lively reggae beats that had everyone dancing and smiling. Even during cab rides around the island, the unmistakable sound of reggae and dancehall played through the speakers, setting the perfect soundtrack for our adventures.
This constant presence of music created an atmosphere that felt alive and welcoming, and it was impossible not to be swept up in the island’s infectious energy. Jamaica’s music scene isn’t just entertainment, it’s a vibrant expression of the culture and spirit that makes the island so unforgettable.
The DINKs
We’ve only been to Jamaica twice, but it quickly became one of our favorite islands. There’s just something about the culture, the music, the food, the warmth of the people, that makes it feel alive in a way few places do. We visited Runaway Bay on our first trip and loved it, but it was Negril that truly stole our hearts. The laid-back vibe, the stunning sunsets, and the mix of adventure and relaxation made it unforgettable. It’s the kind of place that gets under your skin in the best possible way, and we can’t wait to go back.
NEgril
The sunsets are legendary, the cliffs call to the bold, and the rhythm of reggae is always in the air. This laid-back beach town on Jamaica’s western coast is known for its Seven Mile Beach, thrilling cliff diving at Rick’s Café, and a vibe that invites you to slow down and soak it all in. Whether you’re snorkeling in turquoise waters or swaying to live music with a rum punch in hand, Negril is pure island magic.
Seven Mile Beach: Seven Mile Beach in Negril is everything you imagine a Caribbean paradise to be; soft white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, and a laid-back energy that makes you want to kick off your shoes and stay awhile. We spent hours just walking the shoreline, stopping at beach bars for fresh jerk chicken or a cold Red Stripe, and watching the waves roll in. It’s not just a beach, it’s a vibe. But there is a ton of activities you could do:
- Horseback Riding on the Beach – Ride along the shoreline with the sea breeze in your hair and even take a dip in the water on horseback for a truly unforgettable experience.
- Glass Bottom Boat Tour – Glide over vibrant coral reefs and spot colorful marine life without ever getting wet—perfect for all ages.
- Parasailing – Soar high above the turquoise water for breathtaking views of the beach and coastline.
Cliff Diving: Both times we planned to visit Rick’s Café in Negril, the rain had other ideas but that didn’t stop us from getting in a little cliff jumping of our own. The thrill of leaping off the rugged limestone cliffs into the clear, warm Caribbean water is something we won’t forget anytime soon.
Even without the crowds or the perfect sunset backdrop, the experience was still pure Negril; adventurous, spontaneous, and full of energy. While my husband couldn’t get enough. A few times for me was plenty.

Runaway Bay
We also stayed at a resort in Runaway Bay, a picturesque coastal town located on the northern coast of Jamaica. It offered a variety of dining options serving authentic Jamaican cuisine as well as international dishes. The water was crystal clear however, the water had tons of large rocks.
- Entertainment: Most all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica feature nightly entertainment that showcases the island’s rich culture. Guests can enjoy traditional shows, including lively performances of Jamaican music and dance, such as reggae and dancehall. These shows often highlight local talent and offer an authentic glimpse into Jamaican culture.
- Water Activities: Many resorts offer complimentary amenities like snorkeling gear, kayaks, and paddleboards, allowing guests to explore the ocean at their leisure. In addition to those items, our resort also included trips out on the sun sail. We had a blast zipping through the water though I was a little freaked out when he stopped to show us the fire corral & then zipped out of there. They also had an inflatable “obstacle course. I wish I had video as we could not get passed the long tube but it was hilarious to watch.
- Local Drinks: As always, alongside enjoying the local cuisine, we make sure to drink local too and in Jamaica, that means savoring Red Stripe beer as well as the island’s famous rum and rum cream. Red Stripe is a renowned Jamaican lager with a distinct flavor and iconic branding, brewed by Desnoes & Geddes Limited in Kingston. Meanwhile, Jamaican rum and rich, creamy rum cream capture the spirit of the island in every sip, offering a smooth, flavorful taste that perfectly complements the vibrant culture and warm hospitality of Jamaica.
