      The Same

Both the Family and the DINKs have been fortunate enough to visit Florida at least once a year for nearly our entire lives. As beach lovers, it’s no surprise that our trips have often centered around the state’s beautiful coastal areas. Over the years, we’ve explored many of the beaches that make up Florida’s Space Coast, creating countless memories along the way. From quiet, secluded stretches of sand to bustling beach towns with vibrant atmospheres, we’ve experienced a little bit of everything. While we’ve covered a lot of ground, there are still plenty of beaches and hidden gems left to discover, and we’re excited for the many more shared experiences to come as we continue to explore this stunning coastline.

      Melbourne

We absolutely love spending time in Melbourne, Florida, which offers a wonderful mix of beachside charm and vibrant downtown culture. As a coastal community, Melbourne is home to beautiful beaches with soft sand, crystal-clear waters, and a laid-back atmosphere perfect for a day of relaxation or adventure.

Beyond the beaches, we enjoy exploring Melbourne’s quaint downtown area. The tree-lined streets are filled with charming shops, art galleries, and cafes that give the town a welcoming, small-town feel.

      Beaches

      • Canova Beach Dog Park: Nestled along the shores of Indian Harbour Beach, Canova Beach Dog Park is a haven for dogs and their owners alike. This off-leash dog park features expansive sandy shores where pups can run freely and splash in the waves. With separate areas for small and large dogs, it’s the perfect place for socializing and playtime.
      • Paradise Beach & Park: Paradise Beach & Park in Melbourne is a dog-friendly destination offering a perfect blend of sun, sand, and sea. Leashed dogs are welcome to explore the sandy shores and enjoy scenic walks along the beach. Afterward, cool off under the shaded picnic pavilions or take a stroll along the boardwalks overlooking the ocean.
      • Coconut Point Park: Nestled between the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean, Coconut Point Park is a picturesque spot where dogs can enjoy the great outdoors. Leashed dogs are welcome to explore the park’s trails, picnic areas, and scenic overlooks. The park’s natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere make it an ideal retreat for both pets and their owners.

      Bars & Restaurants

      • Shells of Melbourne is a beloved local eatery offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere paired with delicious, homestyle cooking. Known for its fresh seafood and hearty dishes, it’s a must-visit spot for comfort food with a coastal twist.
      • El Ambia Cubano is a vibrant Cuban restaurant in Melbourne, Florida, celebrated for its authentic cuisine, lively atmosphere, and waterfront views. With dishes like ropa vieja and perfectly pressed Cuban sandwiches, it offers a flavorful escape to the heart of Cuba.

      Hotels & Lodging

We are big fans of Chase’s travel credit cards, especially for their versatility and valuable reward options. One of our favorite ways to maximize our points is by transferring them to Hyatt. Hyatt consistently offers some of the best value in the industry, with some of the lowest points-per-night requirements among major hotel chains. While Hyatt’s portfolio isn’t as extensive as Hilton or Marriott, they’re continually expanding their footprint. This growth often translates to newly constructed hotels, which means modern amenities, updated designs, and fresh experiences for travelers.

      • The Hyatt Place Melbourne/Palm Bay offers modern comfort and convenience, making it an ideal base for exploring Florida’s Space Coast. With spacious rooms, a relaxing pool, and easy access to local attractions, it’s perfect for both leisure and business travelers.
      • The Hyatt Place Melbourne Airport combines convenience and comfort, located just minutes from the terminal. With spacious rooms, a 24/7 dining menu, and modern amenities, it’s the perfect choice for travelers looking to relax or recharge before their next journey.
      Vero Beach:

Vero Beach, located along Florida’s Treasure Coast, offers us the perfect blend of natural beauty, outdoor adventure, and small-town charm. Known for its uncrowded, pristine beaches, this coastal gem provides us with a serene escape where we can relax on soft sands, swim in the Atlantic, or enjoy water sports like paddleboarding and kayaking.

Beyond the shoreline, Vero Beach boasts a vibrant arts and culture scene, with attractions like the Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Riverside Theatre. As nature lovers, we love exploring the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, the first designated wildlife refuge in the U.S., or taking a scenic stroll through McKee Botanical Garden. With its boutique shopping, fresh seafood dining, and laid-back atmosphere, Vero Beach offers us a tranquil yet engaging getaway on Florida’s east coast.

      Cocoa Beach:

Iconic and bustling, Cocoa Beach Pier is a favorite destination for us, offering a perfect mix of entertainment, dining, and stunning ocean views. Whether we’re fishing, surfing, or simply relaxing on the beach, there’s always something to enjoy. We love the lively atmosphere of the pier, where we can watch surfers catch the waves or take a leisurely stroll while soaking in the sea breeze.

For those of us looking to indulge in some shopping, a trip to the legendary Ron Jon Surf Shop is a must. This iconic spot is a haven for beachgoers and surf enthusiasts, offering everything from surfboards and beachwear to unique souvenirs. It’s not just a surf shop; it’s a part of the Cocoa Beach experience, and we always find ourselves picking up a little something before heading back to the beach.

      Satellite Beach

Satellite Beach, Florida, is one of our favorite coastal towns on the Space Coast. Known for its laid-back atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and breathtaking sunrises, this town offers the perfect blend of relaxation and outdoor adventure. We love how easy it is to slow down here—whether we’re lounging on the beach, taking a morning jog along the shore, or simply soaking in the peaceful surroundings. The town’s relaxed vibe creates an inviting space where we can connect with nature and enjoy the slower pace of life.

One spot with easy parking is Pineda Beach. It’s everything we love about the coast—quiet, pristine, and unspoiled. The large sand dunes protect the beach from the noise of the outside world, making it feel like our own little sanctuary. The beach is typically uncrowded, and we can always find a perfect spot to settle down with a towel and our beach gear. The parking lot is small, but if we can’t find a spot, we simply head to the next nearby beach, as there are plenty of other hidden gems to explore on the island. Each time we visit, we’re reminded of how much we enjoy the natural beauty and peaceful vibes that Satellite Beach has to offer. It’s a place where we can leave the stresses of everyday life behind and just be in the moment. Whether we’re surfing, shelling, or taking in the sunrise with a cup of coffee, Satellite Beach always feels like a home away from home.

      Palm Bay

Palm Bay is a hidden gem along Florida’s Space Coast that we absolutely love exploring. With its mix of lush nature, waterfront views, and outdoor activities, it’s the perfect spot for both relaxation and adventure.

We enjoy walking through the expansive nature preserves, paddling along the Indian River, and taking in the local wildlife. Whether we’re fishing, kayaking, or simply soaking up the sunshine at one of the nearby parks, Palm Bay offers a peaceful escape with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. It’s a wonderful place to unwind while staying close to the heart of Florida’s beautiful coast.

      The DINKs

      The Brevard Zoo

The Brevard Zoo is one of our favorite family-friendly destinations, where we can truly connect with wildlife and nature in a fun and educational way. Whether we’re wandering through the well-designed habitats or participating in one of the zoo’s hands-on experiences, there’s always something exciting to discover.

One of the highlights of our visit is kayaking through the zoo’s lush, natural habitats. We’ve paddled through water habitats where we’ve spotted animals like lemurs, alligators, and flamingos up close, which is always such a unique experience. You don’t really get that close to the animals. The best views we had were of the Giraffe’s but it was a unique expeerieence.

For those of us who love getting up close and personal with wildlife, the Brevard Zoo offers fantastic animal encounters that allow us to interact with exotic species safely and educationally. You have a chance to feed giraffes, pet a stingray, and even chat with zookeepers who shared fascinating insights into the animals’ lives and conservation efforts. It’s not only fun but also a great opportunity to learn about animal behavior, habitat preservation, and the zoo’s role in wildlife conservation.

      Summary

The Florida Space Coast is an extraordinary destination that offers something for everyone, whether we’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or a little bit of both. From the iconic Cocoa Beach Pier to the serene shores of Satellite Beach, we’ve found endless spots to explore and enjoy. The region’s blend of rich space exploration history, natural beauty, and coastal charm makes it an ideal getaway for both families and those seeking quieter retreats.
